POLYVAGAL THEORY SOUND HEALING

Safe and Sound Protocol
+ Rest and Restore Protocol

Two Pathways to Nervous System Regulation

There’s no place like homeostasis. Return to yourself through the transformative power of sound.

Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) and Rest & Restore Protocol (RRP) are distinct sound-based interventions grounded in Polyvagal Theory, a neurophysiological framework developed by Dr. Stephen Porges.

Both RRP and SSP are designed to support nervous system restoration and regulation, emotional resilience, and a deeper sense of connection—with yourself and with others.

Through carefully curated sound—whether algorithmically filtered music or rhythmic immersion—these protocols offer gentle, non-invasive ways to shift long-held patterns of defense and disconnection. Each one meets the nervous system where it is, opening space for healing, curiosity, and calm.

The Rest & Restore Protocol: Rhythms for Restoration

I am a certified Rest and Restore Protocol provider, and offer this as part of a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach to somatic healing.

The Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) is a next-generation sound-based intervention designed to support nervous system regulation, emotional integration, and inner coherence. Grounded in Polyvagal Theory, it promotes deep relaxation and a return to physiological balance.

Co-developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and composer Anthony Gorry, RRP blends decades of research on biological rhythms with immersive musical design. Using Sonocea® Enhanced technology, the music carries subtle embedded cues that support healing, restoration, and homeostasis—including shifts in gut-related autonomic function. The protocol supports dorsal and ventral vagal pathways, encouraging deep internal restoration.

RRP is typically experienced in a relaxed setting, either in person or remotely, through high-quality headphones. While the approach is gentle, its effects can be powerful—many clients report a felt sense of calm, safety, and renewed connection with themselves: rested and restored.

Neuroscience meets music in these two polyvagal-based protocols

The Safe & Sound Protocol: Rhythms for Regulation

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a sound-based intervention rooted in polyvagal theory, neurophysiology, and backed by over a decade of clinical research. Using algorithmically filtered music, it gently stimulates the vagus nerve and middle ear muscles to help shift the nervous system from defense to calm.

This subtle yet effective method helps the body recognize cues of safety—softening hypervigilance, enhancing emotional regulation, and making connection feel more accessible. Many clients report feeling more grounded, less reactive, and better able to stay present in daily life.

Delivered through over-the-ear headphones in a quiet setting, SSP works remotely or in person. The carefully filtered frequencies support nervous system flexibility, opening the door to curiosity, relational ease, and deeper resilience.

I am a certified Safe & Sound Protocol provider and offer this program within a larger framework of somatic and trauma-informed care.
